FEC Complaint Filed Against Hillary Clinton Campaign
by Matt Margolis :: October 31, 2007 12:54 AM
How much longer are we going to let the crimes of Democrats, particularly those of the Clinton Machine, go unpunished? As the co-authors of a book about the rampant corruption in the Democratic Party, Mark and I know very well that Democrats are rarely held accountable when they break the law.
In response to recent stories from the Los Angeles Times and the New York Post, we are filing an FEC Complaint (posted below) against the Hillary Clinton for President Committee. These stories revealed evidence of illegal immigrants and straw donors donating to Hillary's campaign, donors who felt pressured to give money for fear of retribution, and a significant number of poor donors who gave $1,000 or $2,300 to Hillary's campaign -- when they obviously weren't in the financial position to do so.
Hillary's campaign has dismissed the story as "derogatory to Chinese-Americans," so clearly they have zero interest in ridding themselves of illegal contributions.
With the complaint filed, Hillary's campaign has 15 days to respond.
Here is the text of our complaint:
October 31, 2007
Office of General Counsel
Federal Election Commission
999 E Street, NW
Washington, DC 20463
Dear Counsel:
We write to file a complaint against the Hillary Clinton for President Committee for violation of Federal Election Law under the Commission's jurisdiction.
It is clear from recent news accounts that the campaign and its donors and fundraisers have violated 2 USC 441f, the provision of law that prohibits campaign contributions in the name of another, and that some donors may have violated 2 USC 441e which prohibits donations by foreign nationals without permanent resident status.
A recent Los Angeles Times article, [available here], indicates that several reported donors to the Clinton campaign are non-existent persons, illegal immigrants, or were reimbursed by others for contributions. The article documents several instances in which reported donors could not be found, even by those living at the same address reported in the campaign’s FEC filing:
The Times examined the cases of more than 150 donors who provided checks to Clinton after fundraising events geared to the Chinese community. One-third of those donors could not be found using property, telephone or business records. Most have not registered to vote, according to public records. […]In yet another case, a “donor” denied ever giving money to the campaign:Of 74 residents of New York's Chinatown, Flushing, the Bronx or Brooklyn that The Times called or visited, only 24 could be reached for comment.
[…]
The tenement at 44 Henry St. was listed in Clinton's campaign reports as the home of Shu Fang Li, who reportedly gave $1,000. […]
A tenant living in the apartment listed as Li's address said through a translator that she had not heard of him, although she had lived there for the last 10 years.
Census figures for 2000 show the median family income for the area was less than $21,000. About 45% of the population was living below the poverty line, more than double the city average.
In the busy heart of East Broadway, beneath the Manhattan Bridge, is a building that is listed as the home of Sang Cheung Lee, also reported to have given $1,000. Trash was piled in the dimly lighted entrance hall. Neighbors said they knew of no one with Lee's name there; they knocked on one another's doors in a futile effort to find him.
Salespeople at a store on Canal Street were similarly baffled when asked about Shih Kan Chang, listed as working there and having given $1,000. The store sells purses, jewelry and novelty Buddha statues. Employees said they had not heard of Chang.
Another listed donor, Yi Min Liu, said he did not make the $1,000 contribution in April that was reported in his name. He said he attended a banquet for Clinton but did not give her money.The article also demonstrates that the Clinton campaign received large campaign contributions from illegal immigrants barred from contributing under Federal law:
One New York man who said he enthusiastically donated $2,500 to Clinton doesn't appear to be eligible to do so under federal election law. He said he came to the United States from China about two years ago and didn't have a green card.These incidents are far from isolated occurrences at the fringes of the Clinton campaign. Campaigns routinely stay in close contact with their most prolific fundraisers and encourage them to raise even more money from associates. Community organizers even organized a fundraising event for Hillary Clinton that netted $380,000, implying substantial knowledge of and involvement in procuring these donations on the campaign’s part.
As Clinton campaign bundlers, these community leaders also placed improper pressure on those who could least afford to donate:
Clinton has enlisted the aid of Chinese neighborhood associations, especially those representing recent immigrants from Fujian province. The organizations, at least one of which is a descendant of Chinatown criminal enterprises that engaged in gambling and human trafficking, exert enormous influence over immigrants. The associations help them with everything from protection against crime to obtaining green cards.The New York Post conducted a further examination of the Hillary Clinton for President Committee's campaign finance data. Their story is available here.Many of Clinton's Chinatown donors said they had contributed because leaders in neighborhood associations told them to. In some cases, donors said they felt pressure to give.
[…]
"Everybody was making a donation, so I did too," [He Duan Zheng] said. "Otherwise I would lose face."
The New York Post story indicates that several unlikely donors, including cooks and dishwashers, made $1,000 contributions to the campaign.
A search of Chinatown donors yesterday by The Post found several bogus addresses and some contributions that raised eyebrows.The investigation by the New York Post also found evidence of illegal “straw donations.”Shin K. Cheng is listed twice in federal records for giving $1,000 donations to Clinton's campaign on April 17.
But the address recorded on campaign reports is a clinic for sexually transmitted diseases, hemorrhoids and skin disease.
No one at the address knew of a Shin K. Cheng.
Another donation came from a Shih Kan Chang on Canal Street. But the address listed is a shop that sells knock-off watches and other pirated goods. The sales clerk there did not know the donor.
Hsiao Yen Wang, a cook in Chinatown, is listed as giving Clinton $1,000 on April 13. Contacted yesterday, she told The Post she had written a check.In addition to the aforementioned evidence, it is worth noting that the Hillary Clinton for President Committee has clearly decided to take no action to remedy these violations. According to the New York Post, “The Clinton campaign dismissed the L.A. Times story as derogatory to Chinese-Americans.”But it was on behalf of a man named David Guo, president of the Fujian American Cuisine Council, and Wang told The Post that Guo had repaid her for the $1,000 contribution.
Accordingly, the Clinton campaign's disinterest in and failure to remedy these violations along with the potential scope of the abuse indicates that that the Commission should investigate and take action against those responsible for violation of the law.
The information in this complaint is based upon information and belief, and not on our personal knowledge.
Respectfully,
Matthew Margolis & Mark Noonan

Review from ValuesUSA Director, Guy Adams
by Matt Margolis :: July 6, 2007 1:02 PM
Guy Randall Adams, the director of ValuesUSA, has written a great review of Caucus of Corruption. Here is an excerpt:
There are many recent books of worth, but this exposé is among the best of what I have recently read, and I consider it among the more important ones. So little has been said that is accurately exposing and appropriately defaming the modern Democratic Party -- and now along comes an important and fearless work that shines an illuminating light on the true identity of today’s liberal Democratic Party.Click here to read the whole thing.
[...]
I’m grateful to the authors, Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan, for having the courage to expose much of the Democratic Party for what truly is: overly corrupt, completely hypocritical, and totally disingenuous -- and in point of fact, is nothing but nefarious.

Interview with BlogCritics Magazine
by Matt Margolis :: June 27, 2007 1:50 PM
Mark and I were interviewed by Big Dog of BlogCritics Magazine. Here is an excerpt:
Read the whole thing.BIG DOG: Your book, Caucus of Corruption: The Truth about the New Democratic Majority, focuses on corruption within the Democratic Party. What do you say to critics who might claim the book is partisan and ignores the corruption within the Republican Party?
MATT: First, I would tell them to read the book, because we do recognize that there is corruption in the Republican Party and we do say that corrupt Republicans should be removed from power and kicked out of the party. The problem with those critics is they don't want people to know about corruption in the Democratic Party. They'd sooner keep the corrupt Democrats in power than risk letting honest Republicans have any political advantage or control.
MARK: We can be sure that those who are accusing us of being unfairly partisan weren't at all upset as the way the MSM -- and the Democratic leadership -- ruthlessly ignored the facts of Democratic corruption. One longstanding Democratic tactic in these matters is misdirection - like when Clinton was wrapped up in his adultery scandals, Democrats were all about how this or that Republican did it, too. We're not doing that - what we're doing is acknowledging the totality of corruption in our politics by highlighting the long-ignored Democratic aspect of it.

Interview with Psycmeistr's Ice Palace!
by Matt Margolis :: June 18, 2007 1:18 PM
Mark and I were interviewed by Leo Pusateri of Psycmeistr's Ice Palace. Here is an excerpt:
LEO: In doing your research, have the McCain-Feingold "Campaign Finance Reform" laws been effective in their original intent? What sort of loopholes inherent in the bill have been utilized to skirt its restrictions? What parts of the bill have been completely ignored?MATT: The ironic thing about campaign finance reform is that Democrats are the biggest proponents of campaign finance reform and also some of the worst violators of campaign finance laws. And some, like Nancy Pelosi, might not be in power today if they hadn't broken laws to get ahead.
MARK: It's not even just a question of loopholes in most cases, we found several examples of flagrant violations of campaign finance laws. But the loopholes are also quite interesting — want to know how to bribe a politician? Its really quite simple: you donate to his campaign, and he pays his wife/brother/kid/lover/etc for being some sort of a campaign consultant — the money still winds up in the politicians pocket, and all perfectly legal. Neat job, if you can get it — and be dishonorable enough to be able to sleep at night after you do it. It also shows that the Democrats alleged desire to "get money out of politics" is really a desire to get conservative money out of politics — the laws severely hamper grassroots organizations from raising money and being heard, but they really do nothing to prevent Democrats ensconced in power from doing whatever they please.

William Jefferson Indicted – Just the Tip of the Iceberg!
New book shows corruption in the Democratic Party goes far beyond William Jefferson
Boston, MA (June 5, 2007) -- Yesterday's indictment of Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corruption in the Democratic Party, according to Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan, authors of Caucus of Corruption: The Truth About the New Democratic Majority (ISBN 0-9778-9847-4, World Ahead Publishing, May, 2007). Margolis and Noonan are far from surprised that Jefferson has been indicted and weigh on who will be next!

Blogger Reviews

The book also serves as a reminder to big media. All political scandals need to covered, and all crooked politicians need to exposed. The press is supposed to expose scandal, regardless of party affiliation. It's a lesson well taught within Caucus of Corruption's pages.
Big Dog's Weblog (also posted at BlogCritics Magazine):
I highly recommend Caucus of Corruption to anyone who wants to know how corruption is spread throughout our Congress. Margolis and Noonan do a great job of leveling the playing field and exposing the other side of the corruption, the side dismissed by the left and ignored by the media. Armed with this information and that which has been presented in the past, voters in America can better assess the jobs of those who portend to be above board and working in our best interests and then decide the best method to right this great ship.
My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy:
This scrutiny is long overdue. Just after a quick skim, I’ve read some examples of outrageous corruption about which I’d never heard a peep in the media.
The book is a reinforcement of what needs to be done by both sides of the aisle to repair the bipartisanship which is so necessary to Get Things Done in Washington, DC.
It's partisan, snarky, and a lot of fun.
[Caucus of Corruption] is a strikingly well-researched, handily portable compendium of a stunning glut of scandals and misdeeds, since respun and rebranded (though rarely refuted) by the new majority as "distractions" and "smears".
This book is the most comprehensive look yet at the lies, hypocrisy and corruption that is today's democrat party.
Learn what our lamestream media won't report and the Democrat party ignores. See for yourself that the Corruption in Washington D.C. isn't so one-sided as claimed during the 2006 campaign.
[...] Nothing fits the pieces of the puzzle all together to show just how deeply entrenched the Democratic party is in their own culture of corruption better than the book Caucus of Corruption.

Interview with Right Wing News
by Matt Margolis :: May 30, 2007 11:04 AM
Mark and I were interviewed by John Hawkins of Right Wing News. Here is an excerpt:
Read the whole thing.John Hawkins: Last year, the Republican Party was rocked by the Mark Foley congressional page scandal. Can you give us some examples of Democratic sex scandals and compare them?
Matt Margolis: The Mark Foley scandal, as bad as it was (we're certainly glad he's gone) doesn't even hold a candle to various sex scandals that have happened to Democrats, and the response to them is also quite different, as we detail in Caucus of Corruption.
For instance, in the 1980's, Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) was revealed to have had a sexual affair with a male congressional page. At the same time, Rep. Dan Crane (R-IL) was revealed to have had an affair with a female congressional page. Both decided to let the voters of their districts decide their fates. Crane, the Republican, was voted out. Studds, the Democrat, was reelected, and would be reelected 6 more times until his retirement. Another Massachusetts Democrat, Barney Frank, was caught up in a sex scandal of his own, and he still serves today as Chairman of the House Finance Services Committee.
Mark Noonan: Another example would be former congressman Mel Reynolds (D-IL) who was indicted on child pornography and rape charges in August 1994, and reelected that November with 98% of the vote. He was later convicted on those charges, and on separate charges a couple years later, only to be pardoned by President Bill Clinton just before he left office.

You Know You're Doing Something Right...
by Matt Margolis :: May 20, 2007 7:15 PM
...if liberals attack your book.
It's amazing to me just how much time and effort liberals put in to bashing Caucus of Corruption.
Almost immediately after the book launched, fake reviews were appearing on Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com from people claiming to have already read the book and bashing it. It is sad that some people are so partisan that they resist any attempts to reveal the undeniable corruption in their own party.
While we don't deny the existence of corruption in the Republican Party, our friends on the other side of the aisle apparently are unwilling to let truth penetrate through their partisan view of the world and admit that corruption is a bipartisan epidemic.
Perhaps liberals should answer this question: Is our country really better off if we're willing to overlook corruption in the party we align ourselves with?

Press Release: A 29% Approval Rating For Congress?
by Matt Margolis :: May 16, 2007 7:33 PM
A 29% approval rating for Congress? "Buyer's remorse," say authors of Caucus of Corruption
Shocking new book details the brazen corruption of Congressional Democrats.
Boston, MA (May 16, 2007) — A new Gallup poll shows that 29% of Americans approve -- and 64% disapprove -- of the way Congress is doing its job. In fact, approval ratings are down 4 percentage points from last month. For Matt Margolis and Mark Noonan, authors of Caucus of Corruption: The Truth About the New Democratic Majority (ISBN 0-9778-9847-4, World Ahead Publishing, May, 2007) there's nothing surprising about it.

The Caucus of Corruption Becoming Clear
by Mark Noonan :: May 12, 2007 7:46 PM
This is not only not a surprise, but is entirely expected and, indeed, is happening even faster than expected:
House Democrats are suddenly balking at the tough lobbying reforms they touted to voters last fall as a reason for putting them in charge of Congress.Now that they are running things, many Democrats want to keep the big campaign donations and lavish parties that lobbyists put together for them. They're also having second thoughts about having to wait an extra year before they can become high-paid lobbyists themselves should they retire or be defeated at the polls.
The growing resistance to several proposed reforms now threatens passage of a bill that once seemed on track to fulfill Democrats' campaign promise of cleaner fundraising and lobbying practices.
"The longer we wait, the weaker the bill seems to get," said Craig Holman of Public Citizen...
I hate to break it to ya, Mr. Holman, but the reason why it is taking so long and getting weaker ever day is because the Democratic Party is corrupt from top to bottom. It is how they do business - it isn't just the odd elected Democrat who is corrupt (as is the case in the GOP), but the whole Party ethic which lives on corruption. If you wonder why a Pelosi-led Congress is unwilling to go after corruption then you need look no further than the fact that Nancy Pelosi used illegal campaign funds to buy her way into the top slot among House Democrats.
There is too much corruption in politics - and as Matt and I point out in Caucus of Corruption, the GOP isn't sinless; but we cannot get to government reform until the Democrats start to clean out their own house...and, honestly, one of the first and best steps Democrats could take would be to unseat Nancy Pelosi and force her resignation. Do that, and we'd be on the path to a clean government...fail to do that, and all we'll get until the Democrats are tossed out is more of the same corruption.

On Becoming a Published Author
by Mark Noonan :: May 9, 2007 9:36 AM
It is a long held dream, and it has finally come true - for many years now I've said that I wanted to write, and now I have written for publication, and people have chosen to actually buy what I had a hand in making. It strikes me with awe over the power of God to work in our lives when we allow it to do so...
As I peeked in from time to time and noticed that the book was actually selling (we don't know how much yet, but we do know that it is selling), a fit of anxiety came over me - what if it flopped? What if it was judged to be no good by people I respect? What if it was a huge success? These thoughts and their attendant feelings flooded in on me in waves, bringing me into the elation of a completed task, and into the nightmare fears a human being can dredge up from the depths of his cluttered mind. Finally, after hours of such agonizing came the wisdom: Thy will be done.
Matt and I wrote this book - we put ourselves into it, and we hope it is good. I think it is good. But I also understand that if it is good, then I merely used a gift God gave me, and I hope I used it in a manner which brings glory to Him - I pray that my effort will have the highest reward, that of being praised by praiseworthy.
For all of you who have bought or will buy the book, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for having faith in the ability of Matt and I to do our job right, and I hope you'll be patient with whatever flaws you find in this book, written by your fallible servants.

the opportunity to purchase something with his name on it!"
- Banky Edwards, Chasing Amy (deleted scene)
Today, we officially launched Caucus of Corruption: The Truth about the New Democratic Majority. The book shot up the charts on Amazon.com, (you can check out the progression recounted on Twitter), going from roughly 90,000 earlier today, all the way to 2,756 just a few moments ago.
Earlier this evening, I took a trip to the local Barnes & Noble, and found the book on the shelf, and bought it (full price -- all the perks of being an author) and it was a really cool feeling. I love being in book stores. I love looking around, browsing through books, non-fiction, fiction, etc. etc. Don't you love the smell of new books in a bookstore? If you crave knowledge, isn't it exciting to get a book and open it up and ingest all the information on the pages?
Anyway, it was nice to go to the same bookstore I've gone over the years, to see my own book on the shelf, and buy it. I hope a lot of you are anxious to get your copy and take in all the information on its pages.
