FEC Complaint Filed Against Hillary Clinton Campaign

by Matt Margolis :: October 31, 2007 12:54 AM

How much longer are we going to let the crimes of Democrats, particularly those of the Clinton Machine, go unpunished? As the co-authors of a book about the rampant corruption in the Democratic Party, Mark and I know very well that Democrats are rarely held accountable when they break the law.

In response to recent stories from the Los Angeles Times and the New York Post, we are filing an FEC Complaint (posted below) against the Hillary Clinton for President Committee. These stories revealed evidence of illegal immigrants and straw donors donating to Hillary's campaign, donors who felt pressured to give money for fear of retribution, and a significant number of poor donors who gave $1,000 or $2,300 to Hillary's campaign -- when they obviously weren't in the financial position to do so.

Hillary's campaign has dismissed the story as "derogatory to Chinese-Americans," so clearly they have zero interest in ridding themselves of illegal contributions.

With the complaint filed, Hillary's campaign has 15 days to respond.

Here is the text of our complaint:

October 31, 2007

Office of General Counsel
Federal Election Commission
999 E Street, NW
Washington, DC 20463

Dear Counsel:

We write to file a complaint against the Hillary Clinton for President Committee for violation of Federal Election Law under the Commission's jurisdiction.

It is clear from recent news accounts that the campaign and its donors and fundraisers have violated 2 USC 441f, the provision of law that prohibits campaign contributions in the name of another, and that some donors may have violated 2 USC 441e which prohibits donations by foreign nationals without permanent resident status.

A recent Los Angeles Times article, [available here], indicates that several reported donors to the Clinton campaign are non-existent persons, illegal immigrants, or were reimbursed by others for contributions. The article documents several instances in which reported donors could not be found, even by those living at the same address reported in the campaign’s FEC filing:

The Times examined the cases of more than 150 donors who provided checks to Clinton after fundraising events geared to the Chinese community. One-third of those donors could not be found using property, telephone or business records. Most have not registered to vote, according to public records. […]

Of 74 residents of New York's Chinatown, Flushing, the Bronx or Brooklyn that The Times called or visited, only 24 could be reached for comment.

[…]

The tenement at 44 Henry St. was listed in Clinton's campaign reports as the home of Shu Fang Li, who reportedly gave $1,000. […]

A tenant living in the apartment listed as Li's address said through a translator that she had not heard of him, although she had lived there for the last 10 years.

Census figures for 2000 show the median family income for the area was less than $21,000. About 45% of the population was living below the poverty line, more than double the city average.

In the busy heart of East Broadway, beneath the Manhattan Bridge, is a building that is listed as the home of Sang Cheung Lee, also reported to have given $1,000. Trash was piled in the dimly lighted entrance hall. Neighbors said they knew of no one with Lee's name there; they knocked on one another's doors in a futile effort to find him.

Salespeople at a store on Canal Street were similarly baffled when asked about Shih Kan Chang, listed as working there and having given $1,000. The store sells purses, jewelry and novelty Buddha statues. Employees said they had not heard of Chang.

In yet another case, a “donor” denied ever giving money to the campaign:
Another listed donor, Yi Min Liu, said he did not make the $1,000 contribution in April that was reported in his name. He said he attended a banquet for Clinton but did not give her money.
The article also demonstrates that the Clinton campaign received large campaign contributions from illegal immigrants barred from contributing under Federal law:
One New York man who said he enthusiastically donated $2,500 to Clinton doesn't appear to be eligible to do so under federal election law. He said he came to the United States from China about two years ago and didn't have a green card.
These incidents are far from isolated occurrences at the fringes of the Clinton campaign. Campaigns routinely stay in close contact with their most prolific fundraisers and encourage them to raise even more money from associates. Community organizers even organized a fundraising event for Hillary Clinton that netted $380,000, implying substantial knowledge of and involvement in procuring these donations on the campaign’s part.

As Clinton campaign bundlers, these community leaders also placed improper pressure on those who could least afford to donate:

Clinton has enlisted the aid of Chinese neighborhood associations, especially those representing recent immigrants from Fujian province. The organizations, at least one of which is a descendant of Chinatown criminal enterprises that engaged in gambling and human trafficking, exert enormous influence over immigrants. The associations help them with everything from protection against crime to obtaining green cards.

Many of Clinton's Chinatown donors said they had contributed because leaders in neighborhood associations told them to. In some cases, donors said they felt pressure to give.

[…]

"Everybody was making a donation, so I did too," [He Duan Zheng] said. "Otherwise I would lose face."

The New York Post conducted a further examination of the Hillary Clinton for President Committee's campaign finance data.  Their story is available here.

The New York Post story indicates that several unlikely donors, including cooks and dishwashers, made $1,000 contributions to the campaign.

A search of Chinatown donors yesterday by The Post found several bogus addresses and some contributions that raised eyebrows.

Shin K. Cheng is listed twice in federal records for giving $1,000 donations to Clinton's campaign on April 17.

But the address recorded on campaign reports is a clinic for sexually transmitted diseases, hemorrhoids and skin disease.

No one at the address knew of a Shin K. Cheng.

Another donation came from a Shih Kan Chang on Canal Street. But the address listed is a shop that sells knock-off watches and other pirated goods. The sales clerk there did not know the donor.

The investigation by the New York Post also found evidence of illegal “straw donations.”
Hsiao Yen Wang, a cook in Chinatown, is listed as giving Clinton $1,000 on April 13. Contacted yesterday, she told The Post she had written a check.

But it was on behalf of a man named David Guo, president of the Fujian American Cuisine Council, and Wang told The Post that Guo had repaid her for the $1,000 contribution.

In addition to the aforementioned evidence, it is worth noting that the Hillary Clinton for President Committee has clearly decided to take no action to remedy these violations. According to the New York Post, “The Clinton campaign dismissed the L.A. Times story as derogatory to Chinese-Americans.”

Accordingly, the Clinton campaign's disinterest in and failure to remedy these violations along with the potential scope of the abuse indicates that that the Commission should investigate and take action against those responsible for violation of the law.

The information in this complaint is based upon information and belief, and not on our personal knowledge.

Respectfully,

Matthew Margolis & Mark Noonan

You Know You're Doing Something Right...

by Matt Margolis :: May 20, 2007 7:15 PM

...if liberals attack your book.

It's amazing to me just how much time and effort liberals put in to bashing Caucus of Corruption.

Almost immediately after the book launched, fake reviews were appearing on Amazon.com and BarnesAndNoble.com from people claiming to have already read the book and bashing it. It is sad that some people are so partisan that they resist any attempts to reveal the undeniable corruption in their own party.

While we don't deny the existence of corruption in the Republican Party, our friends on the other side of the aisle apparently are unwilling to let truth penetrate through their partisan view of the world and admit that corruption is a bipartisan epidemic.

Perhaps liberals should answer this question: Is our country really better off if we're willing to overlook corruption in the party we align ourselves with?

The Caucus of Corruption Becoming Clear

by Mark Noonan :: May 12, 2007 7:46 PM

This is not only not a surprise, but is entirely expected and, indeed, is happening even faster than expected:

House Democrats are suddenly balking at the tough lobbying reforms they touted to voters last fall as a reason for putting them in charge of Congress.

Now that they are running things, many Democrats want to keep the big campaign donations and lavish parties that lobbyists put together for them. They're also having second thoughts about having to wait an extra year before they can become high-paid lobbyists themselves should they retire or be defeated at the polls.

The growing resistance to several proposed reforms now threatens passage of a bill that once seemed on track to fulfill Democrats' campaign promise of cleaner fundraising and lobbying practices.

"The longer we wait, the weaker the bill seems to get," said Craig Holman of Public Citizen...

I hate to break it to ya, Mr. Holman, but the reason why it is taking so long and getting weaker ever day is because the Democratic Party is corrupt from top to bottom. It is how they do business - it isn't just the odd elected Democrat who is corrupt (as is the case in the GOP), but the whole Party ethic which lives on corruption. If you wonder why a Pelosi-led Congress is unwilling to go after corruption then you need look no further than the fact that Nancy Pelosi used illegal campaign funds to buy her way into the top slot among House Democrats.

There is too much corruption in politics - and as Matt and I point out in Caucus of Corruption, the GOP isn't sinless; but we cannot get to government reform until the Democrats start to clean out their own house...and, honestly, one of the first and best steps Democrats could take would be to unseat Nancy Pelosi and force her resignation. Do that, and we'd be on the path to a clean government...fail to do that, and all we'll get until the Democrats are tossed out is more of the same corruption.

On Becoming a Published Author

by Mark Noonan :: May 9, 2007 9:36 AM

It is a long held dream, and it has finally come true - for many years now I've said that I wanted to write, and now I have written for publication, and people have chosen to actually buy what I had a hand in making. It strikes me with awe over the power of God to work in our lives when we allow it to do so...

As I peeked in from time to time and noticed that the book was actually selling (we don't know how much yet, but we do know that it is selling), a fit of anxiety came over me - what if it flopped? What if it was judged to be no good by people I respect? What if it was a huge success? These thoughts and their attendant feelings flooded in on me in waves, bringing me into the elation of a completed task, and into the nightmare fears a human being can dredge up from the depths of his cluttered mind. Finally, after hours of such agonizing came the wisdom: Thy will be done.

Matt and I wrote this book - we put ourselves into it, and we hope it is good. I think it is good. But I also understand that if it is good, then I merely used a gift God gave me, and I hope I used it in a manner which brings glory to Him - I pray that my effort will have the highest reward, that of being praised by praiseworthy.

For all of you who have bought or will buy the book, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for having faith in the ability of Matt and I to do our job right, and I hope you'll be patient with whatever flaws you find in this book, written by your fallible servants.

A Cool Moment: Caucus of Corruption Launches

by Matt Margolis :: May 8, 2007 8:41 PM

"This is a cool moment ... How often does a guy get
the opportunity to purchase something with his name on it!"
- Banky Edwards, Chasing Amy (deleted scene)

Today, we officially launched Caucus of Corruption: The Truth about the New Democratic Majority. The book shot up the charts on Amazon.com, (you can check out the progression recounted on Twitter), going from roughly 90,000 earlier today, all the way to 2,756 just a few moments ago.

Earlier this evening, I took a trip to the local Barnes & Noble, and found the book on the shelf, and bought it (full price -- all the perks of being an author) and it was a really cool feeling. I love being in book stores. I love looking around, browsing through books, non-fiction, fiction, etc. etc. Don't you love the smell of new books in a bookstore? If you crave knowledge, isn't it exciting to get a book and open it up and ingest all the information on the pages?

Anyway, it was nice to go to the same bookstore I've gone over the years, to see my own book on the shelf, and buy it. I hope a lot of you are anxious to get your copy and take in all the information on its pages.

Final Round

by Matt Margolis :: February 5, 2007 1:40 PM

It has been a busy couple of months, let me tell you.

As I previously blogged, we submitted the manuscript to World Ahead Publishing back on November 12, 2006.

Since then, it's gone through a number of editorial reviews, a legal review, and most recently a high level review. Mark and I made final revisions to it this past weekend (with some new content, as the Democrats never fail to provide us with new fodder), and sent it back to World Ahead Publishing this morning. After one final proof this week, the book goes off to the printer.

The expected publication date is now the first week of March March 20th April 17.

We've also recently hired a publicist, so there will be lots of exciting updates in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, please sign up for our mailing list!

Vegas Book Update, Part III

by Matt Margolis :: November 11, 2006 12:18 PM

Today is my last day in Las Vegas, and Mark and I have been working long and hard this whole week, constantly adding new information. It has been a very productive week and we're really excited about our progress. And yes, we still managed to have some fun this week. Unlike my last trip, I will be leaving Las Vegas with more money than I came. Earlier this week I won $120 on video poker, and last night another $50. As glad as I am to have not lost money gambling this week, Mark was the big winner, scoring the jackpot on 6-card Keno, winning $1,300.

But, this week really was about putting the final touches on our book, and we're pleased with what we've accomplished the past seven days. Truth be told, Tuesday's elections changed everything. The silver lining is that the Democrats will not be able to hide their corruption much longer. Some of the stuff we've found you won't believe, and much of it you probably never heard before.

I'm still in Vegas for another 12 hours, so, there's still lots to do, and I'm going to get back at it.

Vegas Book Update, Part II

by Mark Noonan :: November 8, 2006 9:12 PM

Well, it has certainly been an interesting four days since Matt got here - we've been tremendously busy writing and, of course, the election yesterday put a dent in our productivity. I have to say, though, that the results, while bad for our GOP, have been inspiring for us - I don't think that Matt and I have ever had a more productive day of writing...the chapter on Pelosi has had a 33% increase in size, for instance....oh, Naaaancy, do you remember your past? That's ok....we do...

The main thing Matt and I are taking out of this is that there's no point in fretting for fussing - we lost, now let's get to work and advance our conservative ideals...moaning and groaning won't stop one Democratic proposal...on the other hand, telling the truth about our Democrats will have all sorts of benefits for our Great Republic.

Vegas Book Update

by Mark Noonan :: November 4, 2006 4:57 PM

Getting organized out here - trying to figure out the best way to update the Democratic scandals...the amount of info flooding in all the time makes this one of our most tricky tasks.

Going Back To Las Vegas

by Matt Margolis :: October 22, 2006 5:33 PM

That's right, I am heading back to Las Vegas in a couple weeks to work with Mark to complete the manuscript for Caucus of Corruption and send it off to the publisher. We've been working on the manuscript for quite some time now, mostly on opposite sides of the country, myself in Massachusetts, and Mark in Nevada. But, this will be the second (and final) time we will work on the book together non-stop for a whole week.

The last time I was in Vegas to work with Mark on the book, we doubled the size of the book. How much more will we have to add this time? Time will tell.

Richard Miniter Endorsement

by Matt Margolis :: October 15, 2006 11:07 PM

I am pleased to announce that Caucus of Corruption has received another endorsement! this one comes from Richard Miniter, the New York Times bestselling author of Losing bin Laden and Shadow War:

“Washington, D.C. was built on a swamp and, as Caucus of Corruption shows, it has not gotten any cleaner. Since Margolis and Noonan remind us what the mainstream media has forgotten: that corruption is very much a bipartisan scourge.”

A Glowing Endorsement From Tom DeLay

by Mark Noonan :: September 24, 2006 10:21 PM

I'm excited to report that Caucus of Corruption has received its first endorsement! Our first endorsement comes from Rep. Tom DeLay, a great man and politician who found himself the number one target of Democrats in their phony ethics war.

We are pleased to present to you a portion of DeLay's endorsement.

"...Margolis and Noonan have cut through the smoke and mirrors to reveal what the liberals are really hiding - their complete lack of leadership and refusal to stand up for the values-based agenda most Americans are demanding. This book is a must read for all Americans looking for the unreported motivations behind the Left's political scene."
The true story has always been there, and we're pleased that we're able to tell it. Matt and I wish to thank Tom DeLay not only for his endorsement, but also for his service to our nation.

UPDATE: Cover design unveiled!

They Already Hate Us

by Matt Margolis :: September 8, 2006 2:34 PM

The following email was sent to our publisher earlier this afternoon:

pulishing [sic] a book by mark noonan and matt margolis is like publishing pamphlets for goebbels. conservatism, in large part, may be good or may not, but these two propagandists are the path to calamity for mankind. they poison discourse and encourage fascism. [Expletive] YOU!
That didn't take long. Given recent events, I wonder if Democrats are going to threaten bookstores in order to prevent them from selling our book...
